Eliya at 6 months!

My sweet girl, you are 6 months old!

You are such a fun little lady to have around! Time is going by way too quickly!

You weigh 16lbs 12 oz (61ist %tile) and 26" long (52nd %tile) you are just slightly longer and lighter then your big brother was at the same age.
You wear size 3 diapers and 6 month and 6-12 month clothing.
You are in size 1 or 2 shoe.
You still let me put those sweet headbands on your head, which surprises many people!

You are a BUSY girl! You've had the army crawl down for a few weeks now and this week you are spending more and more time up on your knees! You have also been doing push ups on to your toes! You can also get up to sitting but aren't quite steady enough to let go of one hand.

You are such a happy baby. All it takes is a "hi!" and you have a HUGE smile. You get so excited youjust can't even stand straight you do a sweet little twist! You are very talkative and loud, you yell and squeel and we love it.

You ADORE your big brother. He gets the biggest smiles. He's pretty in love with you too!

Sleep isn't so great right now. You prefer to sleep in your crib but your still waking several times a night. You go down around 8:30 and your up by 11/12 for your first feed then again around 3/4 and again around 6, and thats often for the day, sometimes I manage to get you back to sleep until 7 or 8.

We just started you on solids in the last week. I planned on doing strictly BLW but you seem to really enjoy the cereal and purees I made for you so we will stick with this for a while. You are finally taking a bottle well but have yet ot have formula, just mama milk.
You are a nursing champ, you are still nursing lots, usually mid morning before your nap, again mid afternoon and a few more times in the evenings.

You have a little "lovey" that you like to suck and chew on, you get it to sleep and whenever you are fussy or in your car seat.

You are the perfect addition to our family. You make us all so proud and happy. I wish you would slow down a bit tho, its makes your mama sad!  We love you princess pants!

A tooth!

My sweet little lady got her first tooth today! At less then 5 months!
She's not too impressed with it and is pretty cranky at the moment.
She is growing way too fast for this mama's liking.

Ellie is 4 months old!

Eliya you are 4 months old! I can't believe how fast time is going by,
you are growing and changing every day
You are 14lbs 7oz (50th %tile) and 24 inches long (30th %tile).
You are longer and leaner then your big brother at the same age *he was 15lbs 2oz and 22 inches
You wear size 2 diaper and are somewhere between 0-3 and 3-6 month clothing.
You are such a happy baby. You smile and coo ALL the time. All it takes is a smile and a "Hi!" and you get so excited. When you smile you let out a little giggle and you get so excited that you twist your whole little body!
You are ticklish especially on the neck and squeel in delight when I lotion you after bethtime each night.
You are a mama's girl and happiest with me. You still love to be worn in our sling
and your not a great fan of the stroller.
You sleep on your belly and just this week have moved to your crib.
Sometimes you sleep thru the night and sometimes you wake up. You were sleeping awesome but this last week has brought about a lot of changes, including in your sleep!
You like to nurse a lot every 3 hours or so, and you WILL NOT take a bottle at all.
This stresses mama out a bit but we will make it work!
You have been rolling back to belly since July 3rd and each day you get a bit better. This week you can also go belly to back, you can make your way right across the livingroom!
You are also creeping a bit, this shocked mama!
You love toys and your little lovies.
You won't take a paci but you love to hold and chew on a blankie.
You are so strong! You like to play in your exersaucer and jolly jumper.
But we have to be super careful because you can excape your bumbo
and sit straight up in your bouncer!
You adore your big brother and he is in love with you!
I love watching the two of you together and pray that you will grow into great friends!
Eliya, we love you so much. We aren't sure if you are the last of our babies, but if you are you certainly complete every dream we ever had.

ELiya is 3 months old!

Eliya, my sweet baby girl you are 3 months old!
Time is going by far too quickly for me!
You have turned into such a sweet and happy baby!
You started smiling in the last few weeks and it just melts me.
You smile at just about anyone willing to talk to you, and boy do you like to talk!
You coo and already "talk" to us!
We figure once you find real words your going to have LOTS to say!
You absolutely adore your brother, he gets the most smiles from you.
And Ellie does he love you! It warms my heart completely to see already the love you have for eachother, he says your his best friend and I hope it stays that way!
You are a great little eater! You still nurse every 3 or so hours during the day, and usually only once at night.
You are a great sleeper. You go to bed around 8 or 9 pm and sleep until 1 or 2 am if you wake and then again until 5:30/6:00am when you come into my bed and nurse/snuggle/sleep till around 8:30.
You have even given me 8-9 hours once or twice!
You like ot be held and worn in my ring sling a lot, you are NOT a fan of your carseat or the stroller. You sleep really well in your rock n play, I think it helps your reflux.
You wear size 1-2 diapers and will likely move to 2 when this package is done.
You wear size 0-3 month clothes and are just starting to wear some 3-6 month clothes.
Mommy LOVES dressing you up, you have far too many hairbows and for now you tolerate it REALLY well!
You won't take a Guk at all but you love to hold on to your blankies and chew on them.
You weigh 13 lbs! You've grown so much already.
You still have blue eyes which amazes us all they are so pretty. And you have the best little cheeks and an adorable dimple when you smile.
Eliya you make us feel so full and complete. You are more then we ever dreamed another baby would bring this family.

13 week comparison

My babies both at 13 weeks in the same outfit. Time is going by WAY too fast!
I'm loving every minute (or at least reminding myself too!)
3 month post coming this week!

Eliya you are two months old!! Where has the time gone!?
You are getting so BIG, your cheeks are the best! Mommy loves to kiss them and EVERYONE says they want to pinch them!
You are 10 lbs 14.5 oz, which is the 85-97%tile for your corrected age and right around the 50th for your actual age.
You are 22 inches long!
You are in size 1 diapers (just moved up!) and in mostly 0-3 month clothing.
You fit in some newborn still but I don't think they will last long!
You have some tummy trouble and acid reflux, but since we started you on medicine for it you are much happier!
Mommy loves dressy you up and you almost always have a headband on!
You are starting to coo and smile and already I think that you will be more talkative then your big brother was!
You are starting to notice the things and people around you, especially Logan. I can tell you adore him and can't wait to watch the two of you grow into great friends.
You love to snuggle and be worn in a carrier.
You are a mama's girl!
You are exclusively breastfed and nurse every 2-6 hours on demand. You are not an agressive eater like your brother your calm and laid back.
You dont' take a guk very much at all,  you prefer to nurse! Stinker :)
You slept thru the night once, and mama wouldn't mind if you did that a few more times!
You sleep thru anything and anywhere, I hope that continues. You also sleep better in your bassinet then your brother did, however you are still in our room, I like to have you close by!
I love watching you grow but baby girl I wish it would slow down!
We are trying to savour every single moment with you two because its really going by way too fast!

Eliya turned one month old on April 22nd!
Ellie, you are such a sweet girl, you light up our world.
Your big brother totally adores you already.
You have grown so much already! You weigh 8lbs 12oz, which means you gained 3 lbs in the last  month! This puts you in the 35th percentile for your UNcorrected age!
You are an excellent little eater! You nurse every 2-3 hrs usually and a few times in the last month you have slept 4-6 hrs at night!
It would be great if you keep doing that.
You are so strong! And have excellent head control already.
You LOVE to be held and worn, your our little snuggle bum!
You are in newborn size clothing still but I don't think you will be much longer!
You are still in newborn diapers as well.
Mama is having so much fun dressing you up!
You have two alert periods a day, usually in the morning and again later in the evening, you stay awakie for the entire 2-3 hours between feeds!
Your pretty good to have out and about and have been on several big shopping trips already!
You do not seem to care for a guk like your brother did,
you much prefer to nurse and snuggle with mama!
We are so in love with you.
I love watching your brother play with you and dote on you.
Its amazing to me how complete the two of you make me feel.
I know you are going to do amazing things my sweet girl!

ELiya's Birth Story

This pregnancy had been so much different than my first, I
should have suspected the birth would be a whole new experience as well! I had
been off work for several months due to a shortened cervix and cramping. At my
34 week appointment I started to have
some concerns with my blood pressure, since I had been induced due to this with
my son my OB decided to start monitoring me weekly.

At 35 weeks my OB was away, I saw his partner who decided to
do the GBS swab early since my pressures were still elevated and she felt I
would be induced once I got to 36/37 weeks. Later that week at 34 weeks 6 days
I started having cramping and contractions, as well as some frequent bathroom
trips. This persisted for two hours and then subsided. Over the next week my
blood pressure remained a concern and I had frequent lower cramps and back
ache, as well as bathroom visits. I mentioned to Les and my mom that I thought
I was having symptoms of pre labour but I believed it would go on and off like
that for weeks. I wasn’t very uncomfortable, and I was enjoying the last few
weeks of my pregnancy.
On Wednesday March 21st I was sore and swollen.
My blood pressure was slightly elevated. But I wasn’t having any cramps etc. I
took a bath and mentioned to my sister that I thought I would have the baby in
a week or two and I would be induced. I saw my OB on Friday and I knew he
wouldn’t like my blood pressure. I told her I was a little sad that with a 2nd
induction I would never get to experience that “should we go? Am I in labour
moment?” I guess the baby heard me….
I went to bed at 11pm to find Logan had made his way to our
bed. I snuggled in next to him. We planned on spending the next day at a local
family fun center I was really looking forward to enjoying some time with L.
When Les got home I showed him that the baby had the hiccups and you could see
the little bum pop up with each one, I even got this on video. Les moved Logan
to his bed and we went to sleep around 12:30. I actually fell asleep quickly!
At 3:45 I woke up in a startle with a full bladder and
feeling wet. I ran to the bathroom and sat on the toilet in the dark. I
couldn’t believe how much I was peeing. I just kept thinking I can’t believe I peed myself.
Then I noticed my pajamas, underwear, legs and tummy were wet.
Very wet. I was confused to saythe least.
I knew I had just peed because I felt relief but there was A LOT of
fluid there. I made my way back to bed after cleaning myself up and realized
the floor and bed were wet as well. I put on clean underwear and they were wet
by the time I got to bed. I started to think maybe it was my water, but I was
only 35.6 weeks!
I woke up Les and said “I either just peed myself or my water
broke”. His response, “you probably peed go back to sleep”. I wasn’t
uncomfortable at all so I laid down. I texted a friend to get her opinion and I
started googling how to know if your water broke. Even as I was doing this I
thought it was ridiculous. I’m an L&D nurse how do I not know if I’m in labour!?
I had put on clean underwear (again) and a pad. I laid in bed until 4:50 and I
planned on getting up and seeing if there was more fluid, during this time I
started to have mild cramping about every 8-10 minutes. When I got up sure
enough the pad was SOAKED. I woke up Les and showed him the pad. He agreed it
didn’t seem like pee, I called my mom and told her I thought my water broke. I
was having some mild cramping but decided I needed to shower. I’m so happy I
did! I got in the shower while Les started gathering our things. While I was in
the shower I continued to leak and have cramps, I started to believe this may
really be it, I was in shock. After my shower I blow dried and straightened my
hair, and I tweezed my eyebrows! I can’t
believe I did that but I just kept thinking if it was the real thing I
wanted to look OK in photos. We loaded up the van and I carried a sleeping
Logan out. He woke up and was in a wonderful mood!
We dropped him off to my mom about 6am.

I got to the hospital around 6:15am and went straight up to
triage. I was still anxious about being sent home for peeing! My colleagues
were wonderful to me. They quickly got me on a monitor and I realized while I
was cramping regularly they weren’t picking up on the monitor. An amnicator
came back positive indicating I did indeed break my waters. They checked me and
I was 2-3cm but HIGH and posterior. I was admitted and waited until shortly
after 7am, shift change to go down to the high risk unit.
I was early and my blood pressure was quite high (135/103).

After being admitted and discussing my birth “plan”
(whichwas to get the baby out and try to avoid pain, LOL)
we decided that we would start oxytocin as I was feeling
cramps but they were not registering on the monitor or very painful. At 8:10am
the Dr came in the room (not mine the on call OB would be overseeing my car) to
discuss the plan and labs were drawn for routine and PIH blood work. Once all
the labs came back good we went forward and started oxytocin at 9:07am.
The cramps quickly got more intense
and were coming every 3-5 minutes, they STILL weren’t picking up on the monitor
but I could certainly feel them!
At 9:40am I asked for the epidural and the
anesthetist came quickly.
With my first delivery the epidural did not work well for
this reason the doctor did a combination spinal/epidural. Following that I had
a slight drop in blood pressure that left me feeling drowsy and slightly
nauseated. However it passed quickly. I was very comfortable and spent the next
hour and a half resting and texting my friends and family.

At 11:30 the baby’s heartrate started having some
decelerations, I was consciously not looking at the monitor but could hear it.
My nurse checked me at this time and I was STILL 2-3cm however my cervix had
thinned and come forward, none the less I was a big discouraged.
The baby’s heartrate continued to drop with each contraction and wasn’t having as many accelerations in between as we like to see.
The doctor came in and placed both an intrauterine pressure catheter
(to measure the contractions from the inside since they were still not picking
up well on the outside) and a fetal scalp clip to measure the baby’s heartrate
more accurately. At this point I was still2-3cm,
and the oxytocin was running at half of the maximum dose.
The OB on call mentioned needing to consider a
c-section if I continued to not progress (no change at all in 5 hrs since
admission or 8 hrs since my water broke) or if the baby didn’t tolerate labour.
This left me in tears.
Around noon I called my mom quite upset and she tried to
calm me. Les was started to get scared at this point because I was scared.
After these procedures I mentioned to the nurse that while I
wasn’t feeling my contractions and I was comfortable I felt A LOT more of the
exam then I expected to. Shortly after I started to feel pain in my perineum
and then I began to feel the contractions but only on the right side.
At 12:20 I got a top up through my epidural in attempt to help with the discomfort I was
having. I had NO relief from the top up, and while the right side remained in
pain, the left side became even more numb. We suspected the catheter was in too
far and called the anesthetist to come and assess, he was in the room at 12:40
and adjusted the catheter. They gave me a second top up at this time. At 12:55
I continued to have no relief and was breathing thru each contraction. I felt
no pressure just discomfort. The nurse decided to check me,
and I was shocked to hear her say I was 6-7cm! I asked Les
to call my mom and let her know I was OK and had some progress, that a vaginal
delivery was likely. While Les was still on the phone to her the OB came in and
assessed me, I was 9cm at 1pm! Since Les was still on the phone we told my mom
and sister to make their way up to the hospital with Logan. This was not our
original plan and unfortunately Les’ parents were working, however I didn’t
plan on having my baby early either!

I remained very uncomfortable but was coping well by
breathing thru contractions. I knew that things were moving quickly and that
helped me to mentally deal with it as well. At 1:13pm the nurse checked me
again and I was fully dilated, she said the baby was “low” as well. I felt no
pressure, or urge to push just contractions and pain. I didn’t want to push for
too long so we waited.
Not long after the nurse decided I should at least try
to push and see if it provided relief. She set me up to push at 1:25pm and had
me do a trial push. She quickly told me to NOT push and asked for assistance
and the doctor, she said the baby was right there! Once the doctor was there at
1:30pm I pushed thru 2 contractions and at 1:33 after just 3 minutes I heard
Lester say “Oh my Gosh it’s a little Logan!” I thought this meant it was a boy
however, then the doctor said “OK dad what do we have here?” and Les looked
down and said “Oh my God we have a girl!!”
I just started bawling at that point!

Eliya Deborah Joy weighed 5 lbs 12 oz and was 18.5” long.
Les cut the umbilical cord as he did with Logan but they couldn’t put her up on
my chest immediately because the cord was so short. After she was checked out
by the NICU and given APGARS of 9 & 9 I was able to spend some time doing
skin to skin and nursing her. She latched immediately. Les brought Logan in
alone at first and we introduced him to the sister he had predicted all along,
this is when Les bawled! Then my mom and sister came in to meet our girl,
everyone was pretty surprised that it was a she!
I had no tears at all and did not require any stitches.
My recovery was wonderful, I felt greatimmediately.
Eliya had to spend 5 days in the NICU for low sugars and jaundice
by day 2 she was being exclusively breastfed and by day 4 she was gaining weight!
She surprised me in more ways than one,
but I couldn’t have asked for a better experience (except perhaps a working
epidural but at least it was fast!)
This is the first time she wore clothes! I bathed her and dressed her
My awesome mama put together these thank you's for the nurses.
THey are pumped soaps wrapped in pink tissue (we had soem left from my sister's shower
so it was pretty convenient!) but mama added a tag and it was nice to have
something to give for all the awesome care we received

SHe also based these pink and yellow Ducky cookies and decorated this basket.
I was able to give everyone who cared for me or visited a Ducky Cookie!

Home & thriving!

Eliya is finally home and we couldn't be happier!

She came home at 5 days old on Tuesday March 27th.

Here she is all dressed up in her Ducky outfit!

A very tired and ready to be home mama with her girly!
Daddy and his princess..

Ellie snuggled in with her Ducky set and her elephant rattle that big brother bought her!

When we got home the first thing Logan noticed was that Eliya had the rattle he gave her!

This really impressed him!

He got to hold he right away and his completely in love!

He calls her his baby and wants to snuggle and love on her all the time.

Getting to know eachother, he says that Ellie is his best friend, melt my heart!

He's in love with her toes! He likes to play with them and sing "this little piggy"

Here are my two sleeping babies, looking at them reminds me how completely blessed we are!
Finally little miss Elle all cozy in her beautiful hate and blanket a dear friend made for her.

Birth story & one week photos coming soon, I hope!

Eliya Update

Eliya is doing great, however we are still in the hospital.
Its been really tough on me to be away from Logan for so long.
Tonight he called and said he wanted to go to our house with mama and Ellie,
he wanted to know why his sister had to stay at the hospital instead of in her crib.
Its so hard to answer that question, she's just not ready buddy!

Here's my pretty little girl! I already bouht her some sweet little bows, and my mom and sisters
have started the girly shopping!
We thought we would be leaving on Sunday, and then Ellie's bilirubin level came back.
She has jaundice. We thought after 24 hrs of treatment we would be headed home
today, but her levels went up despite the phototherapy.
I am one emotional mama about all of this. I know me sweet girl needs this time and attention and I will do anything she needs. But its hard. Really hard.
My sister, Dee had to leave without getting to hold or spend time with Ellie, she only breifly met her in the delivery room. My sister Nee came to town yesterday and has to leave by Wednesday morning, I really hope that Ellie is ready to go home tomorrow and we can enjoy this time as a family. I am very lucky that I was able to get a care by parent room in the NICU, however its isolating. Only grandparents are allowed to visit. My mom has L all weekend so she couldn't. She came up for sometime tonight and that was really nice. But I want to be home.

Logan was allowed one visit. He was excited to see his sister. He kissed her and helped LEs give her supplement. He was very sweet and he is continuously asking for her.
I am absolutely overjoyed with my daughter, I still can't believe I have a girl!

I feel incredibly blessed by my family. These last few days have been very stressful and emotional but it hasn't in the least taken away from the joy Eliya has brought our family.
We figure she is trying to be just like her big brother, wanting to experience all the things he did when born! One thing she's taking after her brother in is her eating skills!
Yesterday, Day 3, her weight loss was 3.9% and today she GAINED weight. That is amazing at 4 days! Clearly my milk is in LOL. She's not being supplemented at all and we are feeding on demand, I'm waking her at 3 hrs if she goes that far. She sleeps well in between and has had some alert time in the evenings the last two days. I hope that time is spent at home with her aunties and brother tomorrow!

her birth!
Ellie was 4 weeks early, and perfect. I will share my birth story very soon!
For now our princess is in the NICU but is doing wonderfully,
we are hoping its a short stay.

A little about my big boy

I thought it would be nice to spend a little time talking about my big man before he becomes a big brother!
He is growing so quickly, its definitely bittersweet for me. My heart soars with pride at what a bright and sweet BOY he is becoming, but its just happening so quickly.
It makes me wonder WHERE my baby went!
In one week he will be 2 years and 8 months. Crazy.
He is about 35 & 1/2" tall and just broke the 30lbs mark!
He is wearing mostly size 2 clothes and some size 3 shirts. I am buying 3 for the summer.
He wears size 7 or 8 shoe.
He is STILL in diapers, a size 5 and despite my very best effort he is showing NO progress with potty training. He just doesn't want to at this point. He will when he's ready.
We think he is smart, LOL.
He can spell his name and recognize all of the letters in his name.
He can count to 15 in English and to 10 in spanish. He randomly did this last week and amazed us, and they say TV isn't good for kids (thanks Handy Manny/Dora, LOL).
He can sing his ABCs and is getting better at recognizing letters NOT in his name.
He knows all his colours and loves to sing.
He is a bit of a ham and says the funniest things.
He is kind hearted and if I say I'm not feeling well or sad he hugs and kisses me and
asks if that made me better.
He loves other children, and I've been feeling a lot of guilt about keeping him home from daycare the last few months. Financially I just can't justify it when I am home.
I have been making an effort to take him to the early years centre at the end of the street.
He loves it there and they have a lot of great early education activities.

He loves to be a helper, which I think will be useful when baby is here! This is him helping me make dinner this week. His favourite saying is "I do it by myself" for EVERYTHING!

He is a pretty good little swimmer too! HE wears a puddle jumper and is completely independent with it. He can jump in and swim the entire length of my dads pool! (my dad just bought a house with an indoor pool! Such a nice option for frequent swimming, which we all love).

He's getting excited about being a big brother! He has his own baby that he has been testing all the baby toys with! He still insists Ducky is a girl, which I just find hilarious.

He is still a great napper, typically napping 2-3hrs a day. Lately he has been asking to "nuggle" me and nap in our bed. It hasn't affected our new bedtime routine, and I feel like I should snuggle him all I can right now before I have a little nursling again in a few weeks!
Him and Calvin are good friends, and Calvin likes to join us for naps as well!

He is still happy and comfortably rear facing in a Graco MyRide 65. We aren't really sure when we will turn him. We know its safer, and he's just so content it doesn't make sense to make the change. I'm thinking once baby is back there and also rear facing he will be even more content! As you can see there are still several inches above his head for growth before he "outgrows" rear facing. He's enjoying his favourite treat, starbucks hot cocoa!

Back in January we decided to transition L from our bed, cosleeping to a toddler bed. We felt the transition would be easier if we put him into a toddler bed in our room. He has done great! He's still in our room and doesn't seem quite ready to move to his room yet, but he will get there.
I found him UNDER his bed one night a few weeks back! What a funny kid!

This is our little family last week on my 29th birthday.

Last week when I took my belly pic Logan wanted in on the action, here's his baby bump! LOL

And a quick pregnancy update, here I am at 34 weeks.

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow. Still on "watch" for my blood pressure, its pretty consistently 130s/90s, no protein in my urine, and minimal swelling although I have frequent/consistent headaches. I've been very uncomfortable this week and having lots of cramping and even a few episodes of contractions. Nothing to get me overly concerned but I think my body is practicing.
I'm really hopeful I will hang on for another week or two! Three would really be ideal, LOL!
I have 3 more weeks of classes and then my final is two weeks later. An Easter Baby fits best in my schedule but as long as he or she is healthy it doesn't matter when the big day is!
